10/26 Facing the Idols in your Heart to Resist and grow

girl at sunsetLet’s spend one more day on the topic of Idols and Idolatry. True, it is a huge area and one we could write many posts to define and deal with such spiritual things. Spend some time looking into this area of your spiritual and emotional life.

If you are brave enough, ask the Lord to show you any idols you hold dear to your Heart that might replace Him as your focus. It might be small things or huge things, as I shared with you in our last post. For me, the Lord had to deal with roses!

Interesting, for every idol, there is also a ‘High Place’ or the entry point. We see this often in the idolatry in the Old Testament. It was the place where people went to worship at their idol.

A Word from the Lord

A Word from the Lord

Some on reading this post may need to hear from the Lord and His love for you. Please take this as your own ‘Daily Bread’ to grow in your walk with the Lord.

“I have followed the flight of an eagle with My eyes.  I have seen the mighty fish in the sea and they all give Me great pleasure ..… but do you know the greatest of all My creation is the Adam and Eve I created?

“Time has not changed My joy in seeing mankind grow.  However, My heart has been saddened when I know the pleasure I wish to give My people, give to you My child.  My ways are meant to be light, My burden easy.  Religions and rules make the heaviness I wish to lift from My people.

10/25 Idols in your Heart may block growth in Hearing God

heart5However it is not just people who can influence us or block our ability to Resist the enemy of our Soul. Sometimes, we can look to ‘things’ to influence or avoid the issues we need to face. These can be called ‘IDOLS’.

Most Christians would say and idol is anything that replaces the hole in our Heart made for our Creator. It is something that we pay more attention to than we do to Jesus. Using that definition, we can see an Idol can be things, people, events or even what is called ‘Heart vows’. These are statements we make such as “I’ll never go near that horrible person again.” …or “I will never forgive that person.” …or “I’ll never trust him again!”

10/24b Then comes Forgiving Yourself in Hearing God

phoneAccepting God’s forgiveness as a way of dealing with the past behaviour or any sin He convicts you about is one step closer to receiving Freedom.  However another pothole many people fall into is … forgiving themselves.

This step is connected to allowing God’s love and His grace into your Heart.  Of course your Head knows He forgives us but then, can we forgive the person who did the wrong -the person who was you.

Again, at the bottom of self-forgiveness is some of the same reasons why we have trouble accepting God’s forgiveness.  Self-judgement, feeling trapped into whatever behaviour led to the sin, not seeing a way out of the situation – all contribute to doing what we did.  However the biggest reason for not forgiving ourselves is pride.  That old song “I did it my way…” echoes through the human race again and again.

10/24 Forgiveness, an essential key in Hearing God

scroll and quillIn our last post, we encouraged you to spend some time with the Lord and write out a list of PEOPLE that have been a wrong influence in your life. This can often be the roots of the problem, or sin you are resisting.

To be free of the hurt, the wrong influence and the emotions attacked to these people, most often forgiveness is the ONLY weapon.

We covered some of this in our posts 10/18 & 10/19.

Forgiveness does not always come with a feeling. Forgiveness starts with a choice. Most Christians know a lot about the subject of forgiveness but often stumble at HOW to do it. Some people try doing it with their mind and will but the Lord said to forgive …. from the Heart.

10/23 So what are we Resisting in Hearing God?

teen6We are continuing to look at the 10 essential steps in maturity as we follow Jesus!

The main aim for this step in your growth as a Jesus Follower and haring God is to add your strength and will power to remove whatever is in your Heart that feeds the problem. This means being that partner with the Holy Spirit, to follow Him in the ‘ahaaa’ that comes with conviction – not condemnation!

Rather than just ‘grit your teeth and endure’, we need to see what is at the bottom of the issues we face. Sometimes this means a spiritual journey but sometimes it may mean seeing what is at the ‘heart’ of a physical problem.

The Whole Bible Explained in 7 1/2 minutes!

Quite a few years ago we attended a Bible group where we were taught the over all theme of the Bible.  I enjoyed so much I just wondered if it was still there.  Yes, here it is!  Produced on YouTube by:  http://youtu.be/h7TLS-KWnw8  Sadly, you have to have a YouTube account to see this but check out the next one. Then I found another YouTube by Ben Samulak to see the overall view of the Bible and yes in a humorous way:

I trust you enjoyed this break from our series as you took ‘A Walk Through the Bible’.

10/22 Resist by doing things God’s Way

As we have seen in our last post, to Resist may be to find the key to the problem that Jackson inner healingdrives us into repeating the issues again. We are designed to walk in freedom as Jesus Followers – but what does this mean? Whenever we lost our peace, we are facing a spiritual battle first.

Probably one of the largest and most unseen battles is around our anger, resentment and feelings when someone hurts us. Being human, I am sure this is something you, my reader, have faced as well. When we are hurt, wrongly accused or unjustly treated, our Heart can take an ‘offense’.

Again this in one of the most common battles we all face. How do we handle it God’s way? How do we Resist as He would have us Resist?

10/21 So what does ‘Resist’ mean when you are Hearing God?

In our last post, we talked about the necessity of learning to ‘Resist’ in your spiritual battle with the women w glassesenemy. Please know we are not talking about the ‘grit your teeth’, self-striving kind of ‘Resist’

Here is a story that may help you to see the difference.

‘Kayla’ had troubles when it came to climbing stairs, nor because of ill health but huge anxiety attacks especially whenever she attempted to climb any stairs where you could see through each step. She had learned 200 Bible verses and used these as weapons in her anxiety. She had learned breathing techniques and mental exercises to stop the nerve wrenching thoughts as she approached any stairs. He son had bruises on his arm as she would grip his arm for support, even going up an escalator.

10/20 Hearing God and the next step in Growth: Resist

We have just finished the third step of growth in your Christian walk – to Repent. We also woman with ipadincluded a great book called ‘Surrender’. How do these two concepts fit together? Stay with us as we journey into our next step, that of ‘Resist’.

However, before we head in that direction, let’s do a quick review to keep everyone with us. We are looking at the 10 main steps in your walk with the Lord toward freedom. So far, we have set out the importance of learning to ‘Relinquish’, especially the ways the world looks at resolving problems and settling problems.

We faced the need to ‘Recognize’ and do things God’s way rather than our own and then onto seeing what the word ‘Repent’ really means. Here is the list again:

10/19 Forgiveness means taking Responsibility for your own Growth in Hearing God

When you begin to acknowledge and accept the accountability for your own life, you will begin to understand women w glassesthat your role in creating the results you want in yours and God’s hands.  As an adult, you have the responsibility in your hands.  No matter what your life’s circumstances, you can no longer dodge the fact of your own input into where you are today.

If we haven’t learned to take responsibility, we will misdiagnose every problem.  If we get the diagnose wrong, we will get the treatment wrong and end up with another broken expectation.  Resisting or denying this basic principle keeps us in the realm of fantasy as the victim of life.  We must deal with our issues in the way the Creator designed us.

Hearing God Presents an Amazing Project – the Mulli Childrens’ Family in Kenya Africa

From time to time, we present great Website or Blog we have found. It’s hard to find good news in the Mully icon photoworld today but we want to show you an amazing project happening in Kenya, Africa! Let’s start with some YouTube background on the Mulli Children’s Family in ‘Father to the Fatherless’.

Crossroads Missions has partnered with Mulli Children’s family for eleven years, and now many of you are part of a great God story. Charles Mulli is a former Kenyan street kid turned millionaire, who gave everything away in 1989, and shocked his wealthy family by bringing 3 street kids into their home. Since then, they have rescued over 7000 children and currently offer support to over 2000 more. Children who once were without hope, are excelling in academics, sports and arts and becoming productive leaders in their communities.

Christian Foundations presents the Book: ‘Stewardship as a Lifestyle’

stewardship In the book, ‘Stewardship as a Lifestyle’, Dr. John R. Frank digs into his yearning for a more wholistic approach to the life of the steward than just asking for or giving money.  Many of those who have seen this as the goal in their life have ended up with a puzzle of stress, too little time, not enough talent – a ‘rubric cube’ in their Christian life.

The course for true stewardship thinking is more deeply set in the book’s opening chapters. A series of short and challenging musings about a wholistic approach to the life of the steward follow.  Each one is designed to provoke individual reflection and group conversation, coming from John’s own struggle to grow in the grace of generosity.

Our amazing Creator God!

Some sent us an amazing email the other day.  Thought aus3I would share it here!

When GOD solves our problems, we have faith in HIS abilities.  When GOD doesn’t solve our problems HE has faith in our abilities.

God’s accuracy may be observed in the hatching of eggs. . . . .

-those of the canary in 14 days; -those of the barnyard hen in 21 days; -eggs of ducks and geese in 28 days; -those of the mallard in 35 days;

-The eggs of the parrot and the ostrich hatch in 42 days. (Notice, they are all divisible by seven, the number of days in a week!)

God’s wisdom is seen in the making of an elephant. . . .

10/17 Accepting God’s Forgiveness is part of growth in Jesus

We spend one more post on the topic of receiving His forgiveness in learning to hear FeatherPenfrom God.  In counselling and mentoring, we have seen many people who just cannot accept that God can and will forgive them.  It’s like their Heart or their Conscience, or Mind believe their ‘sin’ is so bad, no one, especially God, can forgive them.

Sometimes the ‘sin’ is really is a big disaster, other times their ‘sin’ might seem rather small by other’s view.  However, we work with what the person believes – large or small.

When this belief stops a person receiving God’s forgiveness, it probably comes from one of many sources:

  1. They have judged themselves so harshly, nothing can remove their fatal ‘mistake’.
