9/26 Teach your Children how to Hear from God

Posted by on April 27, 2013 at 5:43 am

From time to time, I want to share an interesting session as a Mentor.

I have been working with a young Mum on hearing from God.  I have been encouraging her to pray for her daughter at night.  Lately, she has been asking 4 year old ‘Jeanie‘ what the Lord is saying to her.

One night, Jeanie said she had been having bad dreams.  “Could Jesus help me with these back dreams?” was her next question.  Her mother assured her that He loved her enough that He could and would.

The next night, Jeanie said she had another bad dream.  “…and what did Jesus say?” was Mum’s question.

“He said to think about the peanut butter and honey sandwiches you like instead of thinking about being afraid.”

Guest Post – So What is the Human Spirit?

Posted by on April 15, 2013api at 3:12 pm

icon - view of beachRecently, the Christian Community celebrated ‘Penetecost Sunday’, the day in the calendar when the Lord Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to His church, some 2,000 years ago.  It would have been quite a shock to see Him alive but to hear Jesus say He was going to leave them again …. it would have been confusing.  Jesus then told His followers to wait in Jerusalem until He could send the Holy Spirit, to be the Comforter and Teacher they needed.

With that as background, we have a special Guest Post.  We can talk about hearing God and how we respond to Him spiritually …… but what does that mean?  If we relate to God who is Spirit, we need tor elate to Him spiritually.  So let me present a very special friend and Pastor, sharing on the topic “What is the Human Spirit?”

So what are good reasons to hear from God?

Posted by on April 7, 2013 at 11:12 pmcontact

So far in this series, we have covered reason why some people struggle to hear from God:  ignorance, wrong thinking about God’s character, fear of change, blockages of past hurts and most important, our heart really doesn’t want to hear from Him.

So, in bringing this first series to a close, I wanted to leave you with a more positive outlook: What are some good reasons to hear from God? We will cover the very important and main reasons to let God into our heart and life.

Once we can get our heart to be open to the possibilities of hearing from Him as a benefit in our personal life, than we can build on good reasons to continue to practice that part of our walk with God.

What we have to Learn: April-May Sunday Cuppa Review

Hearing your Creator’s Voice

Amazing … here we are almost in June 2011!  I don’t know about you, but time goes so fast.  So much as happened since I first started this blog!  What I thought we’d do today is share some of those hurdles, milestones and triumphs.

Anyone who has ever started … or continued with  … a blog will want to hear some of this.  I’ve changed themes 3 times now, trying to get the above heading into the right format and the right rest of the layout.  Ha!  Easy … well you’ve got to be somewhat familiar with CSS and HTML and … and … and  … but that’s a learning process.

The Three Lies that We Believe to be Happy

There are three lies our heart believes that challenge hearing
God and our relationships with people:

LIE #1:  I need to change people’s behaviour to be happy.

Silently ask the Lord this question:  “Lord Jesus, do I believe in my heart that I need to change others’ behaviour?”  Answer _______________?

1.  The truth is that I can’t change anyone’s behaviour. They are going to make their own choices, Deuteronomy 30:15-19.

Luke 6:29 – “If someone strikes you on onecheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic.”

2.  God does not want me to manipulate people into doing the ‘right’ thing.

3.  Even God can’t change people who don’t want to be changed.

The Loom of Time

Posted by on January 18, 2013 at 9:12 am

Here is one of my favorite poems.  It helps to remind us that life has deeper patterns than we may see at this time in our life:

Man’s life is laid in the loom of time

To a pattern he does not see,

While the weavers work and the shuttles fly

Till the dawn of eternity.

Some shuttles are filled with silver threads

And some with threads of gold,

While others but the darker hues

Are all that they may hold.

But the weaver watches with skillful eye

Each shuttle flies to and fro,

And sees the pattern so deftly wrought

As the loom moves sure and slow.

God surely planned the pattern,

The Nature of God

Posted by on December 6, 2012 at 10:12 pm

One of the greatest challenges to our faith is “Why do things happen in my life which don’t seem fair?”  When we understand who God is, we will begin to understand why He does what He does.  Our ignorance of His nature is at the heart of many of our grumbles about life.  Our faith must rest on the nature, character and attributes of God.  Since God cannot change His nature, we can build true faith into our lives by knowing His nature.  The following are the nature, character and the attributes of God:

1.  God is one, in Unity with Himself, His purposes and His plans for us and for mankind are not divided, compromised or incomplete, Deuteronomy 6:4, 1 Corinthians 8:6.

Recently we were honoured to be invited to a “Birthday Blessing Celebration“.  This was a family we have been involved with for many rewarding years of friendship.  So we joined the group for a radant 16 year old’s celebration.  She (we’ll call her Jackie from now on)  had been through an amazing turn-around in her own short life time.  She had ‘stumbled’ through 3 years from depressed, suicidal, rebellious, defiant teen to this person who sat before us now.

Your Heavenly Father isn’t like your Dad!

In this series, we have been investigating why some people have trouble hearing from God.  We mentioned one big reason is the impact their earthly father has on them as a child.  It is hard to image a loving Father if your images of males remind you of your abusive, absent or neglectful dad.

Here are some comparisons between an earthly father and our loving Father God:

1.  Dad was distant and uninterested in your personal life.

God is intimate and involved in your life,     Psalm 139:1-18

2.  Insensitive and uncaring about you or your problems.

Father God is kind and compassionate,     Psalm 103: 8-14

3.  Perfectionist, demanding of higher achievement, never seemed to be satisfied with what you tried to do, impatient.

YouTube – The 12 Spies of sent to the Promised Land

Posted by on May 25, 2012 at 1:43 amterms

As we continue our story on the Covenant Jehovah made with Moses, we enter a new chapter in their history.  The people have arrived at the entrance to the new Land.  Now, Moses sends 12 Spies to view the Promised Land.  However, when the people doubt God, a new  drama ensues.

We can learn so much from these Bible stories.  How much doubt and fear exists in our own lives, especially when we have had a definit word from our Creator?  How do we handle our own unbelief that He is a God of Love and Compassion?

Our Thanks for BeCreativeChange on November 3, 2010 for this production.

Hearing God through the Covenants of God

Posted by on November 14, 2012 at 8:12 am

As we begin this new series in Hearing God, I offer this story from Max Lucado as an introduction to the study on ‘The Covenants of God’.

 *******

The Choice  –  by Max Lucado

He placed one scoop of clay upon another until a form lay lifeless on the ground.  All of the Garden’s inhabitants paused to witness the event.  Hawks hovered.  Giraffes stretched.  Trees bowed. Butterflies paused on petals and watched.

All were silent as the Creator reached into Himself and removed something yet unseen.  A seed.  “It’s called ‘choice’.  The seed of choice.”  Creation stood in silence and gazed upon the lifeless form.

An angel spoke, “But what if he…what if he chooses not to love?”  The Creator finished.  “Come, I will show you.”

The following are 40 quick and easy ways to increase your spiritual awareness:

Verse: draw near to Him…  Find a special journal, exercise book or writing pad to keep track of what you discover about yourself.

1.  Catch a line from a favourite song , say it ten times a day for one week.

2.  Play through your CD’s, tapes, ets and find three songs to write out.

3.  Spend 5 minutes before you get out of bed in the morning, thanking God for 10 things/people.

4.  Find a special verse that ‘speaks’ to you and put it onto your computer with a special font.  Print it out and frame it or tape it to your mirror.

5.  Read the book of John in another Translation, such as The Message.

# 7. What if my Heart doesn’t want to hear from God?

Posted by on January 1, 2013language at 8:12 pm

So far in our series ‘Hearing your Creator’s Voice’, we have seen main seven reasons why some people find it difficult to hear the Lord’s Voice:

Ignorance that we can, wrong teaching, faulty beliefs about His nature and character, life is full of other things like idolatry, occult and other dark spiritual influences, fear that God is like an earthly dad, past hurts and then, too much effort required to change if we allow God’s touch.

Today we will look at an eighth big block that stops us hearing from God – our heart might not want to hear from Him!  This is different from the hurts and pain of the past that might block our hearing.  So, we need to return to what the Bible meant by the heart.

#6 …but it just takes too much effort to change

Posted by on August 24, 2012tour at 3:08 amaddress

In this series, we have been looking at the reasons why some people aren’t able to hear from their Creator. The first reason, igonrance or wrong theology, can be overcome just be knowing that He does talk to you!   It is possible!

Next we discussed how a wrong view of God can hinder any desire to talk with Him.  A third and all too common reason is that life is too full of distractions and sometimes idolatry take the place of God in our lives.

Then for others, their interest are in other things such as the Occult and things of the hidden kingdom in opposition to God’s kingdom.  The next reason was sadder still as the mistaken view that God is like their earthy dad stops some people finding God.  If their dad was distant, harsh or judgemental, they often believe that is what Creator God must be like.
