9/30 How to Help Others call their Heart to Follow Jesus

It always helps to stop every once in awhile and do a quick review!

1.  So far, we have seen that we have a Heart.  We need to be aware of what is happening in our Heart – not just our head.

2.  However, our Heart may be in different conditions.  Most people have a broken, walled in, hiding heart.  What was yours?  How much we have allowed Jesus to touch our Heart?

3.  We then discussed how precious our Heart is to our Creator and how He came ‘to Heal the broken Hearted’.

4.  We saw that when we become the ‘New Creation’, we have special rights and privileges as a daughter of the Most High God.  Our Heart and Spirit become changed and the goal is ‘…..to be conformed to His image’.  To what degree we cooperate with the Holy Spirit depends on us.  We spent some time in our ‘God Space’ to see how He sees our Heart.

5. We have been given ‘Good News’ with Jesus’ perfect, life death and His resurrection.  Our Heart must believe that ‘Good News’.  We must know grace rather than law, life rather than religion.  Our Heart must hear this before it really signs up to continue as ‘a Jesus Follower’.

6. In our last session, what do you remember?  Our heart must understand and deal with the pain that comes our way ….or else our Heart may withdraw and not want to follow the Lord Jesus.

Our Heart must believe the Good News enough to want to share it with others

1.  What are some of the reasons we, as Jesus Followers, hesitate to share our faith with others?  Can you think of 5 reasons why some find it hard?   Some might be too embarrassed to speak out? Some might be afraid of conflict?  They think they can’t answer questions that might be asked?  Other aren’t sure of their own faith?  Some don’t want people to see their problems so why introduce them to Jesus when He hasn’t solved all their questions?  Can you think of others?

2.   …because that is what we are called to do.

3.  True there is a gift or being an evangelist but we are all called to share our personal witness to others….when the time is right.

4.  People need to work from the anointing as an evangelist or from building a relationship with other people first.  Becoming a friend make sharing the Good News easier.

The question comes down to …..”How do I help Others Follow Jesus?”

There are many hundreds of tracts and models:

1.   Just as there are physical laws that govern the physical universe, so are there spiritual laws that govern your relationship with God.  One of the Best quick little tracks was called ‘The Four Spiritual Laws’.  Anyone remember them?

Law #1:  God loves you and offers a wonderful plan for your life.

Law #2:  Man is sinful and separated from God.  Therefore, he cannot know and experience God’s love and plan for his life.

Law #3:   Jesus Christ is God’s only provision for man’s sin.  Through Him you can know and experience God’s love and plan for your life.

Law #4:   We must individually receive Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.  Then we can know and experience God’s love and plan for our lives.

2.  Another similar model is called ‘The Bridge’ or Peace with God by the Billy Graham Ministries     www.majesty.org/tract/tract2.htm    or   http://www.majesty.org/tract/tract2.htm  http://www.fbcutah.org/salvation/bridge%20track.html        www.navigators.org

Step #1: God’s Purpose: Peace and Life!

We were created to be in fellowship and harmony with God.  He made us to enjoy life, fellowship with Him (Genesis 1:27). What happened?  We rebelled – in other words, sinned.  The spiritual link with Him was broken.

Step #2.  Our Problem is Separation.

How many of us have sinned against God?  Romans 3:23. What are the results of sin?  Romans 6:23, Hebrews 9:27.  People try lots of ways to save ourselves or to think they are restoring themselves back to God.  Such as?  Does it work?

Step #3.  God’s Remedy: The Cross.

However, because God still loves us, He made a way to come back to Him!   John 3:16, Romans 5:6-8. Jesus Christ presented as the bridge to God.   He died on the Cross and rose from the grave, paying the penalty for our sin and bridging the gap between God and people.

Step #4.  Our Response: Receive Christ.

What do we do to receive this free gift of grace?  Mark 1:15, John 5:24, Acts 2:38, 1 John 1:12, 1 John 5:11-12.

So how do we help our Heart to get to the point of wanting to share about the Lord Jesus?

Well, first our heart must really, really know and believe that our Creator loves us – no matter what happens in our life!  All the pain and loss of joy in our life often causes our heart to ‘…just give up on following God.’

When the message of the Good News really gets into our Heart, we will want to share this great Person with others.  How near or far is your Heart when you think about sharing Jesus?

We hope this post has challenged you to be willing, to be willing to look at the possible of sharing your faith with others.  If you are already doing this great adventure with Jesus, learn how to share your faith with others.  It is tremendously rewarding to see Jesus begin to change lives!
