9/26 Teach your Children how to Hear from God

April 27, 2013

From time to time, I want to share an interesting session as a Mentor.

I have been working with a young Mum on hearing from God.  I have been encouraging her to pray for her daughter at night.  Lately, she has been asking 4 year old ‘Jeanie‘ what the Lord is saying to her.

One night, Jeanie said she had been having bad dreams.  “Could Jesus help me with these back dreams?” was her next question.  Her mother assured her that He loved her enough that He could and would.

The next night, Jeanie said she had another bad dream.  “…and what did Jesus say?” was Mum’s question.

“He said to think about the peanut butter and honey sandwiches you like instead of thinking about being afraid.”

9/22 Guest Post for Hearing God – Max Lucado ‘The Choice’

April 21, 2013partner

The following has been adapted from a great book by Max Lucado.  It’s called ‘The Choice’.  I have used it on another of my blogs but Iwanted to share this with you today.

<><>o0o<><>

He placed one scoop of clay upon another until a form lay lifeless on the ground.  All of the Garden’s inhabitants paused to witness the event.  Hawks hovered.  Giraffes stretched.  Trees bowed. Butterflies paused on petals and watched.

“You will love me, nature,” God said.  “I made you that way.  You will obey me universe.  For you were destined to do so.  You will reflect my glory Stars, for that is how you were created.  But this one will be like Me.  This one will be able to choose.”

9/27 Our Thinking Influences the way we Feel

April 29, 2013content

Just as a quick review – We have been tracing the pattern of: Heart —– > Thinking patterns —- > Emotions = Behaviour.  In this post, we will continue with how our thinking influences our emotions.

There are two elements of ‘renewing the mind’ that affect how we feel:

1.  Our ATTITUDE about event often is more important than event

It is not what happened to you in the past that is causing the pain today; it is what you think about the past that is causing discomfort.  The past is gone and cannot hurt us anymore.

2.  Then our feelings about the event are CAUSED by attitudes

Our attitude about an event or person will determine our feelings towards that event or person.  Let us illustrate this with an example of Joe visiting Martha:

9/15 Practical time – Finding God Spaces

April 29, 2013

The purpose of this exercise is to help you to be more aware of God’s presence in your world.  Collect 2 pieces of paper and 4 textas of the colours you like.  Go find a place in the building – or outside   if nice weather.  It is important that you have a sense of privacy where you are.

Follow the steps as listed to find your ‘God Space’ and  what He is saying to you.  We are going to be inviting the Lord to talk to you about your heart and where He sees you on your journey.

1.  First, concentrate on what’s happening around your physical body.  Use your four senses: hearing, smell, touch and taste to discover what’s happening outside your body.  Mentally list what you are sensing.

9/13 Common Heart Beliefs and God’s Truth

April 12, 2013
research

Here are some of the common beliefs that our Heart has caught.  Sad to sad, these beliefs influence our emotions and our thinking patterns.  The Answer?  Let the Lord show you the real Truth of what your Heart believes.

The   Emotions:

My   Heart’s Beliefs and Attitudes:

God’s Truth Revealed to   Heart:

1. Depression, worthless, rotten, low,   rejected, melancholy, alone, untrusting, despondent.

“I am no good.  I am all alone and no one   can help me.  There is no one to   protect me.  I cannot trust anyone.  No one rescued or saved me.  Maybe God has forsaken me too.”

“My worth does not depend on my behaviour, my achievements, or my looks.  I am not the victim of my past life’s pains   and mistakes.  God does love me.”

9/12 How can I help my Heart to Heal when Hearing God

April 11, 2013

In our last posts, we talked about having a heart and that our heart can be in different conditions.  We gave you a few practical ways to see what is in your own Heart and how to help prepare your Heart to find ways to communicate with YOU.

The aim of this whole series is to help you find out about your Heart and how to help call it to be a real Jesus Follower.  As we have seen, our heart often determines how much we allow the Lord into our life.  This is why it is so important to learn about the Heart and how to help it find the real Jesus, rather than the ‘Sunday School’ Jesus we may have first seen.

Guest Post – So What is the Human Spirit?

April 15, 2013

icon - view of beachRecently, the Christian Community celebrated ‘Penetecost Sunday’, the day in the calendar when the Lord Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to His church, some 2,000 years ago.  It would have been quite a shock to see Him alive but to hear Jesus say He was going to leave them again …. it would have been confusing.  Jesus then told His followers to wait in Jerusalem until He could send the Holy Spirit, to be the Comforter and Teacher they needed.

With that as background, we have a special Guest Post.  We can talk about hearing God and how we respond to Him spiritually …… but what does that mean?  If we relate to God who is Spirit, we need tor elate to Him spiritually.  So let me present a very special friend and Pastor, sharing on the topic “What is the Human Spirit?”

April 12, 2013

From their 2011 Christmas album “Joy: An Irish Christmas” this is the Gettys singing the song “Fullness Of Grace”, based on John 1:14,16-17. Keith and Kristyn wrote the song in 2004 along with their buddy Stuart Townend. It was one of the first songs they collaborated on with Stuart.

Here we present:

Keith & Kristyn Getty – Fullness Of Grace, uploaded by Bob Marshall on December 15, 2011.

May your heart soak in the words of this song!

So what are good reasons to hear from God?

April 7, 2013advertise

So far in this series, we have covered reason why some people struggle to hear from God:  ignorance, wrong thinking about God’s character, fear of change, blockages of past hurts and most important, our heart really doesn’t want to hear from Him.

So, in bringing this first series to a close, I wanted to leave you with a more positive outlook: What are some good reasons to hear from God? We will cover the very important and main reasons to let God into our heart and life.

Once we can get our heart to be open to the possibilities of hearing from Him as a benefit in our personal life, than we can build on good reasons to continue to practice that part of our walk with God.

Hearing God and Remain in the Vine – Guest Post

April 5, 2013notice

I always thought I was doing great as a good person.  However, Jesus showed me a picture of a green vine.  I was the branches of this green vine – supposed to be a fruit vine.  However it was not bearing fruit for a long time.  To me I felt healthy and from a distance I would appear to be healthy with loving dark green leaves.  However little did I know that I was not making my Owner very happy as I was not doing my job in producing fruit.

“As I felt pretty healthy, I thought that I didn’t need to rely on my Owner’s roots for nourishment.  I thought that I should be able to survive in all types of weather by myself.  Jesus revealed to me that even though I was meant to be a fruit vine, in His eyes, I appeared to be a common evergreen vine instead.

8/10 Other Parts to the Eternal Covenant in Hearing God

April 20, 2013

As we wrap up a series on the Covenants of God, we continue with the Sacrifice, the Seal, the oath and the Place that this final agreement exists.

A.  The Sacrifice to Ratify the Agreement

Since no one from Adam’s race was perfect and sinless enough to redeem us, the Word became flesh, John 1:1-3, 14-18.  The Word was born into this world as a helpless baby.  He came at a time when Rome ruled His country, one of the cruelest dictator governments ever.

Jesus of Nazareth accomplished the Final Sacrifice by His perfect life, His actual physical death and then by His resurrection.  As the seed of the woman, the seed of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and a descendant from David’s line, Jesus offered His sinless body to complete the Final Sacrifice.

8/7 Stuart Townend Music – See What A Morning! A view of Heaven

April 17, 2013

Here is some music by Stuart Townend of Mandate fame.  He is singing a great resurrection hymn about Heaven and what we can expect.  They have also added the words to help catch the truth of his words.  Uploaded by JustChris77 on January 13, 2008.

We do trust that this has helped you catch the view of Heaven as more than just a place of angels and worship.  Certainly this is what happens there, but as you can see from this series, so much more is awaiting us!
