9/10 Ways to Know what is in your Heart when Hearing God

February 24, 2013

The other day, I sat with the Lord and asked Him the Ways He thinks we can get in touch with our Heart.  Here are 10 ways to see what is in your heart:

1.  Learn to catch the inner dialogue, self talk.

What might be the kind of self-talk we would hear the heart saying?  You can find many ‘heart lies’ this way, things the heart believes – that aren’t true.  Such as …..

2.  Catch when you over-react to a situation.

Whenever you find yourself in Reaction – versus responding to a situation – it is God’s open window to see what’s in your heart.  Learn to be aware of these occasions for His help with your journey.  What is happening means your heart has as stuck point that is trying to be re-opened.

9/7 We can learn to find out what is in the Heart.

February 20, 2013

As we have already mentioned, only God can see our heart to know what’s there.  We need to learn to work with our Creator to help us in this journey to find out what is in the heart.  He is not deceived by our outward appearances.  In fact, He will judge us according to what is in our hearts, rather than by our actions.

We have seen how our Heart can be in different ‘conditions’: rebellious, fearful, callous, darkened, anxious, hardened and so on.  It also can be touched by God, cleanses, wise, glad, loves the Lord, sincere and taught to seek God.

There are many ways to find out what is in our Heart.  We’ll cover some of these ways in later posts, along with how to bring healing to a hurt Heart.

9/6 We all begin our Journey of Life with the same Heart Condition

February 13, 2013

So far in this series on the Heart, we have learned that we all have a Heart!  Then we saw in our last post that our Heart can be wounded, hardened and in lots of other conditions.  Part of the journey toward Total Wholeness is to find out what condition your Heart is in!

A.  To begin with, we all begin with the heart in the same condition:
        1.  Ephesians 4:18 explains this.

“They (meaning us) are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardness of their heart.”

2. What does this mean?

Our hearts prevented us from hearing and knowing God, especially a hard heart.  How did we get a head heart?

9/4 Hearing God on the Conditions of your Heart

February 5, 2013service

author of this blog - SusanneOne of the greatest truths we have learned in our 20+ years as counsellors has been about the heart.  The more we can help people deal with the root issues in the heart – rather than just the head – the deeper the change and the more healing is likely.

We talk and even sing about ‘the heart’, but few people have a good understanding about how important the heart is to our lifestyles.  Anyone who is serious about personal growth needs to study what the Bible says about the heart!

A.  Our Heart can be in different Conditions.

The Bible talks about many conditions our Heart and Spirit can be in.  See the post on the verses of the Bible that mention a few of these conditions.  Some of the most common ‘ conditions’ are included in this post.

How do I Start Hearing God’s Voice?

February 24, 2013rss

Our Guest Post:  Four Keys to Hearing God’s Voice

By Dr. Mark Virkler

President of the Christian Leadership University  (Used with Permission)

The age in which we live is so married  to rationalism and cognitive, analytical thought that we almost mock when we hear of anyone actually claiming to be able to hear the voice of God.

However, we do not scoff, for several reasons.  First, men and women throughout the Bible heard God’s voice.  Also there are some highly effective and reputable men and women of Gog alive today who demonstrate that they hear God’s voice.  Finally, there is a deep hunger within us all to commune with God and hear Him speak within our heart.

Christian Joke – They Speak with other Tongues

February 22, 2013profile

“Have you ever been saved?” A rather wide-eyed young fellow startled me with his question as we walked for the bus.  He handled me a booklet with a picture of hell on the front.

“Sure” I responded. “Once when I was 9 years old, I was swimming at Jones Beach on Long Island, and a strong undertow began to drag me out to sea. My Uncle heard my call for help and …..”

“No, No,” he interrupted. “Redeemed! Have you been redeemed? You know reborn ….washed in the blood!”

“What,” I inquired, “in the world are you talking about?”

“Convicted. Have you ever been convicted?”

“No of course not,“ I replied. “I’ve never been in trouble with the law.”

Sunday Cuppa with Susanne – the 23rd Psalm

February 20, 2013report

How about kicking off your shoes, grab a cuppa and let’s do something outside our usual posts?  Care to spend a bit of time thinking about something else to your day?

Recently someone sent me a great version of the 23rd Psalm, from Japan.  I’d like to talk this one through with you.  It’s called:  ‘The Lord is My Pace Setter’

‘The Lord is My Pace Setter….I will not rush’

Sometimes it seems there is just so much to do, or so much I could do but don’t have the time….or it’s less of a priority.  However, when we take being a Jesus Follower into our view of time, He will help us set the urgently desperate from the desperately urgent.  He will even slow us down enough to find His Pace.  Care to work at the pace of the Great Creator?

Sunday Cuppa’ with Susanne – Iniquity

February 12, 2013tour

Jackie sat fidgeting in her chair, obviously wishing she was anywhere but sitting in the counselling room with me.  She had reluctantly made the appointment and I knew there were deep and painful issues she needed to share.

After 20 minutes of sidetracking and beating around the bush, she finally let slip one reason for coming to see me: ‘My grandmother died two years ago and, ahhh, I need to find a way to let her go.’

Tears come to her eyes and I knew she had stepped across an invisible line to let me into her private world or pain.  …but before I could reflect back to her what I had heard as her need, she quickly changed the subject and put back on her brave face.  Our session closed without her making another appointment but I knew she needed to open that grief and loss box.

The Nine Family Groups of Emotions

February 4, 2013

For the purposes of our Hearing God series on the Psychology of Jesus, I have combined a list of our emotions – both pleasant and unpleasant – as a way of seeing the complexity of human personality.  Many of these family groups are inter-related; emotions can be found in other ‘cousin’ family groups.  Most of these emotions will also have progressive ‘intensity levels’: irate, annoyed, angry to enraged.

1. The Family of Anxiety – This group is marked by apprehension, dread, worry, panic, obsessions and phobias.  Most anxiety is rooted in past psychological damage.  The challenge is to bring the damage to God for healing.  Denial, unbelief and low self worth are the common barriers for this to happen.

7/8 Jesus was given full Authority over everything

February 18, 2013

In our last post, we saw what ‘authority’ means, how authority is used by humans and what authority Satan has on this earth.  We now continue to discuss that Jesus was also given God’ authority and what He did with this authority.

Jesus claimed that all authority had been given to Him in heaven and on earth in Matthew 28:18. He then proved that authority by dealing with the demonic, directing the forces of nature, healing the sick and forgiving sins.

1. Jesus was given this authority because of His total obedience to the Father.

7/7 Hearing God tell us Who we are in Christ

February 8, 2013jobs

With this new covenant between Jehovah God and Jesus Christ, we were included into a new relationship with our Creator!  Jesus brought a new revelation of the Supreme Ruler of the whole Universe; He brought the revelation of a loving Father-Son possibility.

Many people claim to know ‘the God of creation’, or the unseen Force behind all the living, plant, animal and humans.  They claim knowledge of the God-force that resides in everything.  Only Jesus brought a relationship with our Creator as Father.

There are many, many other benefits, privileges in being a Jesus Follower.  Here are a few:

We are a SON / DAUGHTER of God – Galatians 4:5, Ephesians 1:5, Romans 8:14

We are a NEW CREATURE in Christ Jesus – 2 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 4:24, Colossians 10, 1 Peter 1:23)

7/3 The Blessings of Hearing God that come with this Covenant

February 16, 2013search

In our last post, we introduced the Covenant with the Lord Jesus Christ that touches all the Jesus Followers, past, present and future.

In this post, we continue with the foundations of this Covenant, including the ‘Good News’ Jesus brought about a new relationship with Jehovah God.

One of the best parts of the Good News that Jesus brought is the added depth of knowledge and wisdom about ‘The Kingdom of God’.

1.  Jesus brought new revelation about God’s Kingdom.

Jesus Christ did not only come to bring us Salvation but also to give us news about ‘the Kingdom of God’, Matthew 4:23-25, 9:35, 10:1-42, 24:14.  This includes all the promises to the Church and to the Bride, who have been translated from the ‘Kingdom of Darkness into the Kingdom of Light’.  Jesus’ teaching covers all the basic laws and principles of this Kingdom.

6/6 Other Parts of the Covenant between David and Jehovah

February 7, 2013

1.  The Oath of the Covenant

Jehovah confirmed this covenant with an oath, making some parts of it irrevocable, such as the promises about the kingship dynasty of David, 2 Samuel 3:9-19, Psalms. 89:3-5, 27-35, 132:11.  Other parts of the covenant were ‘revocable’ if Israel and her kings did not obey Jehovah.  The book containing the agreement is not specified at the time of David’s anointing (but prophesy concerning this is found in the Pentateuch).

2.  The Sacrifice to Ratify the Agreement

2 Samuel 6:17-18, 7:1-3 shows sacrificial blood was shed.  With great joy, David returns the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem.  David gave tremendous offerings of thanksgiving and praise in their celebrations.

3.  The Seal of the Covenant

Hearing your Creator through *The Full Movie on the Life of Moses*

February 5, 2013

If you have time to grab a cuppa’, sit back and watch a movie, I would recommend this movie length version on the Life of Moses.  Sure some of this is a mixture of Biblical and Hollywood …. but you can still learn the facts of his life.  This movie goes for almost 3 hours!

I trust you gained some valuable information as well as your entertainment with this movie.  Our thanks to NylaRossini for his input on September 21, 2011.

Catch you on our next post,

5/6a Covenants for the Promised Land – the Covenant with Moses

February 10, 2013

In the past posts, we have looked at the Four major agreements between Jehovah-Elohim and the person He chose.  The first covenant was before sin and rebellion entered the Garden of Eden.  This Covenant was made with ‘us’ the three persons of the ‘Godhead’, Genesis Genesis 1:26-28.  Then, we discussed the  second covenant made with Adam and Eve when sin entered and they were removed from this perfect Garden of Eden.

Next, we visited Noah’s time and saw the utter destruction of the world by the Great Flood.  Even here, God gave certain promises and His protection as a small group of people started over.

Then we went onto the incredible promises given to Abraham, Father of Faith, to be a blessing to all People.  This promise passed to his son, Issac and his grandson, Jacob.
