10/30 Learn to Renew your Spiritual walk in Hearing God

Sometimes, it is hard to remember that we live in a spiritual world that shows itself in the physical world. chains2This is very true when it come to this step in learning to be a mature Jesus follower.

Ephesians 4:24 puts it this way:

“…22 that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, 23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.…”

How easy it is to drift back into the old ways of thinking or behaving. …but not so for you, dear reader. As you have worked through being wiling to Relinquish the things that would hold you back from a better walk with Jesus, you chose to Recognise the areas where you learned the habit patterns of this world.

With that came Repentance, an agreeing with the Holy Spirit and a turning away from all those areas you listed. You did well in following that path.

Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

From there, learning to resist the old thoughts again takes discipline and determination to be free from the stronghold you have found around you. Another ewwave of recognising and Renouncing would have been a normal spot to stop and sit and think. I trust that you did this as well.

So now that we have cleaned out the placed the Holy Spirit pointed out to you and done as much as you can in following the Lord, what do you fill those empty places with?

We do not want to find ourselves at the Matthew 12:43-44 describes:

43” Now when the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find it. 44” Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came’; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order.…”

So that means, yes again choices. We put off the old and put on the new. It’s not enough to just ‘put off’ the old life, the old thinking patterns. We must begin to replace the old with ‘the new’. Thst seems logical but what new patterns do we choose? Top of this list is to see yourself the way that your Loving Heavenly Father sees you!

Here are some examples where you might have to work with your Mind and your Heart to really accept them. What you have inherited through the life, death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ:

I am a SON / DAUGHTER of God, Galatians 4:5; Ephesians 1:5; Romans 8:14.

I am AT REST from my own works, Hebrews 4:3, 10; Matthew 11:28, 29.

So the question is: “Do you believe these things?” Do you allow His thinking about you to replace your own deceived, warped and untrue thinking to be replaced with His truth? What do you choose to do – hole your views, which have crippled y our self image and self worth – or follow His way of seeing you. What a challenge for all of us. I truly believe that if the church as a body of believers, really believed these things, we would change the world!
