10/10 To Recognise the Truth is Essential in Hearing God!

We now move deeper into ‘ Relinquish’ with the second in our ‘R’s of Maturity in Jesus’. Any guess what that might be? We next need to ‘Recognize’, to able to hear and to see what the Holy Spirit is asking of us. It is here we pause and let Him examine the inner, hidden parts of the Heart that only He can see. He deals with past involvements with the enemy and with learning to protect that precious Heart.

For all of us, this is an ongoing process we come back to when ever the Holy convicts of anything. Then we need to move into learning how to do this, how to walk closer to Him. As one person said: “We need to learn to sit with Him before we can stand with Him. Then we can learn to walk with Him”.

It is a ‘sit, stand and walk’ progression as we grow into being Jesus followers. Too often, we think we can ‘do battle’ before we have learned the rules of engaging the enemy. Would that work in the natural? Then why do we think it would work in the spiritual? The ability to hear from God is an essential element in the life of a believer. In John 10:3-4 Jesus says that the sheep know the Shepherd’s voice and they listen and He calls them by name. He is that Shepherd.

While it is not the purpose to re-present the posts we have included in our precious series, hearing shell1abplease, if you don’t know how to hear from your Creator, it is so worthwhile to learn now!

For some people, even knowing that He does want to walk and talk with YOU, is life changing! I and many, many others are examples of this!

So, how does God talk to us?

1. Through His creation: Romans 1: 19-20, Psalm 19:1 & 97:6 2.

2. Through the conscience as conviction of the Holy Spirit: Romans 2:15, Hebrews 9:14 3.

3. Peace of the Holy Spirit in the inner man or a calmness that accompanies a right decision, also tranquillity, rest and inner contentment.

4. The written word of God (LOGOS), the Bible: 2 Peter 1:20-21, Romans 8:16, and 10:16.

5. The Rhema word. The quickened verse, illumination, or “AHA” usually from the Logos but can be from other inspiration: 1 John 2:27, Luke 24:32

6. Through circumstances, an opening and closing of doors or events that confirm or give comfort to decisions: Romans 8:14 and 28

7. The still, quiet voice with us: Acts 10:19, Isaiah 30:21 and 1 kings 19:12

8. Visions, either seen with the physical eyes or in a trance: Acts 10:1-3, 9:10-12 and Rev. 9:17

9. Gifts of the Holy Spirit given to the body of Christ. Tongues and interpretations, prophesy, discerning of spirits, gifts of healings and miracles, words of wisdom and knowledge, 1 Corinthians 12 and 14, Acts 21:4

10. Desires of the Changed, Godly Heart: Psalm 37:4

11. Counsel of those in authority over you and other ‘spiritual’ people: 1 John 4:6, Hebrerws 13:17, Galatians 6:1, & 1 Peter 5:5.

12. Through God-given Dreams.

13. The Audible voice of God: Acts, 26:13-15

14. By Angels: Matthew 28:2 16. Impressions, intuitive spontaneous thoughts, “knowing that you know”: Acts 27: 9-10, 1 Corinthians 2:13, and Romans 8:16.

If you want to learn more about this process, go back through the previous posts on learning how to hear from God. The best part of all this is that He wants to do it with the timing that only the Creator of the universe could master. His ways are perfect, especially when we might want to rush ahead and get this all finished.
